CLASS UPDATES

Dear Classmates,

Please stay tuned to this page for the latest updates on the Revere High School Class of 1973.

Dear Classmates,

In December's newsletter, we reported that the Memory Books would be arriving in classmates' mailboxes around the end of January.

Well, obviously, that did not happen. And we apologize. Creating the Memory Book is a complicated process involving a lot of back and forth communications with the photo company. And as we ventured further into the design and editing process, we ordered additional pages to make the book an even more special keepsake for everyone.

We can now report that the process is finally nearing the finish line. The final pages have been proofed and the last corrections have been sent to the printers.

Reunion Photographers' best estimate is that the Memory Book will be mailed around the middle of February and will likely take 7 to 10 days to arrive in your mailboxes.

If you would like to order an additional Memory Book or have any questions about your Memory Book order or photo/CD order,
please call Reunion Photographers at 714-265-3638 or email danec12@flash.net. Dane will be happy to help you!

And if you need further assistance from the Reunion Committee, please reach out to Denise Torgerson Smith at 330-730-3012 or smith.denise99@yahoo.com

Thanks to everyone for your patience!

Best regards,

Bruce

REVERE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1973

DECEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER

Memory books should be arriving in classmates’ mailboxes around the end of January

Dear Classmates,

We hope that everyone is enjoying the holiday season!

We are still basking in the glow of our wonderful reunion in late September.

In that regard, we can report that the Memory Books should be arriving in classmates’ mailboxes around the end of January.

Classmates who ordered candid CDs, the 11 x 14 big full-class picture and individual portrait pictures should have received those items in the mail by now. You can call Reunion Photographers at 714-265-3638 or email danec12@flash.net with questions on these items.

SHARING LOVELY THANK YOU CARDS

On Saturday night at the reunion, classmates signed cards for those who were physically unable to attend.

Karen Glenn McElroy purchased the cards, created the beautiful display at the reunion and mailed the cards to our classmates.

Thank you so much, Karen!

Karen received lovely thank you cards from a couple of our classmates, Norman “Rusty” Bills and Becky Hanscom.

CLASSMATE UPDATES

During the months leading up to the reunion, the committee received nice updates from a number of classmates who were unable to attend.

Here are those emails:

I appreciate your follow-up but at this time I don’t believe I will be attending the 50th reunion.  I am out of state as it appears you are also but don’t believe I will be making any trips to Ohio at that time.

All the best,

Debra Zaleski Rick

I am impressed with your and the other members of the reunion committee’s sleuthing skills. . . . Good luck with all your plans.  I hope life has treated you well over the years.  It is hard to believe it has been 50 years since high school graduation, wow.  It is doubtful I can attend but please keep me informed, you never know.  I have many happy memories of my 9th grade year and classmates at Eastview Junior High.

Thanks,

Toinette Jones Carter

Hello all -

I regretfully will have to miss this reunion.  I had the opportunity to host a small group on a 14-night Silversea Baltic cruise and just couldn’t pass that up!

I look forward to seeing posts and pictures on the Class Facebook page. Hope I’m still kicking for the next one!

May everyone have a fantastic celebration and thank you to the committee for all of their efforts to make this happen!

Cheers!

Melanie Cupp Summers

I am sorry I will not be able to attend the reunion. I am a retired elementary school teacher and my husband, Dave, is pastor at All Saints Lutheran Church.

Have a great reunion!

Sally Miller Wesche

It seems unlikely that I will make it to a reunion next September; I’ll keep the dates on my calendar, though, as I often do not know until a month or two before I will travel with the Assistance Dogs International (ADI) transfers, much less which direction. At the moment I have 10 transfers - three trips - to do in the next month, covering over 12,000 miles.

Somewhere in here I am trying to fit in a holiday, probably to the Caribbean coast of Mexico. We also look after/train service dogs here. We have two currently in the ADI breeding program to that keeps us busy. Our daughter, now in her 30s, and her husband and two kids (girl age 5, boy age 1) have a home on his family farm near Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, about two hours from our home. So that keeps us busy as well, helping out there in the busy seasons.

Brian Kelley

Thanks for contacting me about the reunion.  I’m still working (hope to retire next year. . . .) and it is pedal to the metal for me so I’m a bit in my own world. . . . That is my excuse for not returning calls earlier!

I’m not likely to make the event in Ohio.  All my relatives left the state or died, so not much there for me anymore.

Hope you are all well, and you have a good party for our 50th!

Take care,

Dave
(David Shaw)

You tracked me down to let me know about your planned reunion.

Was nice of you folks to invite those of us who started at Revere but finished elsewhere. It looks like I barely qualify since I only went there about a week!

I doubt I’ll be able to make the event but I would still like to receive any information you send out in case I change my mind. If I don’t attend, I’d like to send a letter that anyone interested could read expressing my thanks for my schoolmate’s friendships. A lot of your graduates I had known since kindergarten and fondly remember.

Thanks much,

Roger Young

Thank you for contacting me; I have been receiving the committee’s information but have not gotten involved in reunion activities.  It’s unlikely I will attend the reunion but it is fun to look at the pictures of the last one.

Best wishes to all,

Nancy Barkow Barngrover

My goodness, what a marvelous turnout!!  Your efforts paid off.  Now I’m sad I’m not coming … oh well, have FUN!

Ann Ruhlin Brocker

Sorry I’m not going to make it to the class reunion. . . . Many of us had obsessions with cars back in the day. I couldn’t afford much back then, but I always had dreams of fast cars. Who knew that pickup trucks can go 0-60 in 3 seconds!

I’m still working in the solar business. I enjoy my job, so I’m not ready to retire yet.

I hope everyone has a good time!

Jon Haeme

Got your letter last week. Sure nice to hear from some old classmates.

While I do not think I would attend a reunion, it would be nice if there was a newsletter (the old fashioned kind - like on paper and through the mail). I would be interested to read what people are up to and where they live.

I am still married and have two kids and one grandchild.

Sincerely,

Linda Mortimer Stadelman

OCTOBER 2023 NEWSLETTER

A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!
REVERE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1973 CELEBRATES IN STYLE AT 50TH REUNION

Dear Classmates,

Thank you!

The Revere Class of 1973 Reunion Committee would like to thank our wonderful classmates for joining us at our 50th Reunion over three beautiful September days in Richfield, Bath, Fairlawn and Montrose!

We know that many of you made extraordinary efforts to join us from across the country and, in the case of Bo Hansen (above, with his wife), all the way from Denmark!

Thank you for the many appreciative comments. It was an honor to create this special weekend for our cherished classmates.

LAST CHANCE TO ORDER MEMORY BOOKS, PICTURES

Whether or not you attended the reunion, you can still order a full-color Memory Book, Candid Photos CD and 11 x 14 Class Group Photo. Or just two or three of the items.

But time is running short!

To find the order form, just click on this link on our website:

https://www.revere1973.com/class_custom.cfm?page_id=1943073

Then right click on the order form on the page, click on “Save Image As” on your computer, save it to your desktop and print the page.

If you still have your reunion invitation, you can use the order form that was included.

We recommend that orders be placed in the mail by Wednesday, October 25, so that they will be received by Reunion Photographers by the Wednesday, November 1 deadline.

The Reunion Photographers address is on the form.

If you are not sure what you ordered when you sent in your registration, send an email to Denise Torgerson Smith at smith.denise99@yahoo.com and she will check for you. Then, you can send in an order for additional items if you’d like. She won’t be able to take orders for additional items, but as indicated, you may order them directly from the company.

Note: Opportunities to order your individual pictures (if you attended Saturday evening) will be sent directly to you from Reunion Photographers.

Sally Miller Wesche and her husband, Dave, who were unable to attend, submitted this lovely portrait for the Memory Book.

Unable to attend, Jane Seiler Thompson submitted this beautiful outdoor picture for the Memory Book.

WERE YOU UNABLE TO ATTEND? WE WOULD STILL LOVE YOUR PERSONAL PORTRAIT PICTURES!

If you were unable to attend the reunion, you can still send us a picture of yourself for inclusion in the Memory Book.

So far, we have received nice pictures from several classmates.

Please email your picture to Denise at smith.denise99@yahoo.com by Friday, October 20.

Thank you!

Several classmates have already sent us their candid pictures from the reunion.

PLEASE EMAIL YOUR CANDID REUNION PICS TO THE COMMITTEE

Several classmates took great pictures at the reunion. Some pics have even been posted on Facebook. Thanks so much!

If you did take some pictures, we might be able to use them in the Memory Book.

Please email your candid reunion pictures to brucemoore234@gmail.com by Friday, October 20.

Thank you in advance!

SIGNATURE EVENTS DRAW BIG CROWDS

Friday night: The gathering at Whitey’s exceeded our own high expectations. What a beautiful spot to start the weekend! So many hugs and smiles!

Saturday night: The beautiful meeting room at the Holiday Inn turned out to be even nicer than in 2015. The buffet was delicious and the superb speeches from classmates, reminiscing and dancing made it a night to remember.

Sunday morning/afternoon: To top it off, Furnace Run Park was a great spot for sharing stories, catching up and having some fun as well, with cornhole and bocce ball outside and a wild ‘70s trivia game inside. The brunch was delightful as well.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES ADD SPICE TO WEEKEND!

The additional activities during the weekend were a blast as well. On Friday afternoon, classmates viewed the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park on bicycles and/or the relaxing train.

The school tours Saturday morning were very interesting. Our large group of classmates saw how “Eastview” has grown so much in 50 years. And we were so impressed by the modern, beautiful new Revere High School. Thanks to our hosts for taking the time to show us the schools.

And finally, a lucky group of classmates and guests enjoyed Elaine Reid’s afternoon tea on Saturday as we learned so much about tea varieties and customs at the Macaron Tea Room in Broadview Heights.

THANKS FOR READING THE LATEST NEWSLETTER!

Well, that’s it for the latest edition of the class newsletter.

Thanks to all who made our 50th Reunion a tremendous success – our hard-working committee members, determined volunteers, wonderful classmates, generous donors and always-accommodating venue partners.

REUNION UPDATES #5

A FABULOUS 50th!

REVERE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1973 CLASSMATES CELEBRATE DURING A MEMORABLE REUNION WEEKEND

Reunion attendees,

What a wonderful three days!

It was fantastic visiting with our classmates who gathered from far and wide and making new friends as well!

Thank you for the many appreciative comments. It was an honor to create this special weekend for our cherished classmates.

REUNION UPDATES #3

Reunion Weekend is just one week away!

HERE IS ALL THE INFORMATION YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE YOUR WEEKEND ENJOYABLE

Dear Classmates,

After nearly two years of planning, the Revere High School Class of 1973’s 50th Reunion is almost here!

It will be a fun weekend with all kinds of enjoyable activities for classmates and their guests.

In all, more than 115 classmates -- 25 more than at the 2015 reunion! -- will be attending at least one of the three signature events during the weekend. That’s more than 40 percent of the 280 classmates on our active roster.

Most 50th high school reunions in our nation attract 20 to 30 percent of the class, so this will be an outstanding turnout by any measure.

WE ALL KNOW  THE DATES BY NOW: SEPTEMBER 22, 23 AND 24

More than a year ago, classmates voted on the dates: Friday, Sept. 22,  Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept. 24.

And nearly a year prior to the reunion, the Reunion Committee mailed “Save the Date” cards to the entire class.

Several classmates got creative, posting interesting places where they saved their cards:

https://www.revere1973.com/class_gallery.cfm?gallery_id=72951

DAVID JENNINGS TO SERVE AS EMCEE SATURDAY NIGHT

Committee Co-Chair David Jennings will return to a familiar role at the Dinner/Dance on Saturday night: Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

David has been the emcee at our previous reunions and will make announcements and introduce speakers during the program following the dinner on Saturday night.

CLASSMATES TO ADDRESS ATTENDEES SATURDAY NIGHT

We will be having a short program at the Saturday evening dinner/dance at the reunion.

Several classmates have volunteered to address the class on various topics at the event.

Speeches will be limited to 5 minutes.

If you are more of an impromptu type of person, we have your back! We will be asking anyone else who would like to address the class to step forward to speak Saturday night.

PLAYLIST IS READY FOR  SATURDAY NIGHT!

Committee members David Jennings and Joe Rizzi have completed the playlist that the disc jockey will be using on Saturday night.

Light background music will be played during dinner, then dance music – both slow and fast songs – will be played after the program.

David and Joe are happy to report that every classmate who suggested songs will have at least some of their songs on the playlist.

(Note: Keep in mind that the deejay will be choosing tunes from an overall list, so not every song on the list will be played during the evening.)

We are going to dance, dance, dance on Saturday night!

BRING YOUR HIGH SCHOOL MEMENTOS SATURDAY NIGHT

Do you have some neat mementos from your high school years? We will have tables set up for the display of mementos on Saturday night.

We will be setting up the tables prior to the event. If you have mementos to display, please bring your mementos to the event site by 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Please leave your name on the back of the memento and then pick it back up before you leave Saturday night.

MAIN EVENTS TO TAKE PLACE FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

Here are the full details on the signature events Reunion Weekend:

https://www.revere1973.com/MAIN-EVENTS.htm

Large crowds are expected at all of the events: 146 attendees Friday night, 125 attendees Saturday night and 70 attendees Sunday morning/afternoon.

Some tips:

--The temperatures are expected to be in the 60s Friday night at Whitey’s. We will be in a room that has openings to the outside air, so please dress accordingly.

Dear Classmates,

This is the second edition of Reunion Updates, which is being sent to all of the classmates who have signed up for the reunion.

We are doing our best in the weeks leading up to the Sept. 22-24 reunion to provide all of the information that you will need to know so that the weekend will be enjoyable for all of our classmates and guests.

Our big focus in this newsletter will be the Special Activities that are planned for Reunion Weekend.

FRIDAY

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.png

BIKE/TRAIN EXCURSION: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22

Host: Denise Torgerson Smith

Bike/Train Ride (weather permitting)

--Need a rental bike? Please let Denise know if you will need a rental just so that she can advise Century Cycles ahead of time regarding the number of bikes to be rented.

**Those renting bikes should plan to meet at Century Cycles at 9:45 a.m.

**Century Cycles: 1621 Main Street, Peninsula, OH 44264

--Train schedule: The train arrives in Peninsula at 10:50 and departs at 11:10. We will de-board at Botzum Trailhead (around 11:30) and bike back on the Towpath trail to Peninsula.

--Return trip: The timing for the return trip depends on how much the group stops to see sites along the way (e.g., the locks, the beaver marsh, the quarry, Szalay’s Market). Approximately 1.5 hours would be a reasonable estimate, but maybe plan on two hours.

--If you have your own bike: Please plan to meet the group in Peninsula near the train depot around 10:15.

We will all meet at 10:15 to 10:30 and ride the train together as far as the Botzum Station (located on the corner of Bath Road and Riverview; enter from Riverview south of Bath Road).

--After the ride: Some may choose to get something to eat at the Winking Lizard or Fisher’s Café. There are a number of shops to explore in Peninsula as well.

--In case of rain: Denise will email bike riders regarding the cancellation. Riders may choose to do the train ride if they’d like and if tickets are available. On a Friday in September, we would expect that train tickets would still be available.

Train Ride

--For those who wish to just ride the train:
Plan to catch the train in Peninsula and be there by 10:15 am (the CVSR requests that you arrive 45 minutes before departure).

--Route: The ride will take you to Akron and back to Peninsula and is approximately two hours long. The train will depart Peninsula at 11:10 and arrive back around 1:20 p.m.

--Peninsula Depot: 1630 Mill Street West, Peninsula, OH 44264

--After the ride: Some may choose to get something to eat at the Winking Lizard or Fisher’s Café. There are a number of shops to explore in Peninsula as well.

Registration for one of the excursions

--If you have not yet registered for either excursion: Please confirm to Denise by September 10 if you would like to be included in either of these events.
She will work with you on making the train reservation if you are choosing to do the round-trip ride.

--Who has signed up so far? Steve Kramer, Peggy Wier, Diane Boston, Bruce Moore and guest, Christine Voris Hemphill and guest, Gregg Ballou and Bud Langmeyer. Denise will be getting in touch with these classmates to provide further instructions.

Ticket costs

Explorer pass tickets (for biking one way) are $5 and do not need to be purchased early.

The round-trip train tickets should be purchased early and are $18 plus fees (exact cost to be determined).

REUNION UPDATES #1

Reunion Weekend is less than one month away!

“REUNION UPDATES” WILL BE SENT TO ALL CLASSMATES WHO REGISTERED

Dear Classmates,

This is the first edition of Reunion Updates, which will be sent to all of the classmates who have signed up for the reunion.

We will do our best in the weeks leading up to the Sept. 22-24 reunion to provide all of the information that you will need to know so that the weekend will be enjoyable for all of our classmates and guests.

FRIDAY NIGHT’S SOCIAL GET-TOGETHER TO START AT 6 P.M.

We have received a tremendous response to Friday night’s social gathering.

It stands to be the largest gathering of RHS 1973 classmates since our graduation ceremony 50 years ago.

With such a large number of people expected, the Reunion Committee has moved the start of the event forward by one hour: The event will now start at 6 p.m.

We are also urging early arriving classmates to park in the additional parking lot next door. This will ease the crunch in the main lot.

One more important reminder: Whitey’s does not accept credit cards. So please bring cash. An ATM machine is at the restaurant.

Here are all the details on Friday night’s event:

Friday night, September 22, 2023

Social Gathering
Whitey’s Booze and Burgers restaurant

--Address: 3600 Brecksville Road, Richfield, OH 44286
--Website: https://whiteys.com/home/
--Phone: 330-659-3600

Meeting place: We will be in the newly refurbished covered back patio for an evening of conversation and fun surprises.

Time: Please note that this event will now start at 6 p.m. It will last until midnight or later.

Parking: In addition to the restaurant parking lot at 3600 Brecksville Road, there is an additional parking lot at 3554 Brecksville Road, right next door. Those arriving early are encouraged to park in the parking lot next door. Carpooling to the event is also encouraged.

Food: Pizza and wings will be provided by the class. Classmates can also order off the menu.

Drinks: There will be a cash bar. Attendees must pay for any drinks that they order.

No credit cards: Whitey's does not accept credit cards, so please bring cash. There is an ATM machine on the site.

Activities: No formal activities are planned at this event. This will be a night for visiting, music, games -- who knows?

A SPECIAL EVENING: SATURDAY NIGHT’S DINNER/DANCE

Final planning is taking place for Saturday night’s Dinner/Dance. Reunion co-chairs met with the caterers last week to finalize the menu.

Here are more details on Saturday night’s event:

Saturday night, September 23, 2023

Evening Dinner and Dance
Holiday Inn Express Akron NW – Fairlawn
(formerly Double Tree Inn, where our 2015 Saturday event was held)

--Address: 3150 West Market Street, Akron, OH 44333
--Website: www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/hotels/us/en/akron/cakfl/hoteldetail
--Phone: (330) 869-9000

--Registration, photos: Starting at 6 p.m.
--Cocktail hour: 6-7 p.m.
--Dinner: 7 p.m.
--Program: 8 p.m.
--Dancing, Visiting, Reminiscing: 9 p.m. to midnight

The big event of our weekend will be held at the Holiday Inn Express, just across the street from the Summit Mall.

A professional photographer will be on site to take posed pictures of interested classmates and guests.

Classmates will enjoy a special buffet with appetizers, salad, sides, entrees, desserts and cash bar (credit cards preferred for drinks)

In addition, we will dance the night away to your favorite songs from 1967 to 1973, including our theme song: “Get Together” by The Youngbloods.

A RELAXING ALTERNATIVE: SUNDAY BRUNCH IN RICHFIELD

As we did in 2015, we will gather at Furnace Run shelter for a more relaxed gathering on Sunday morning and afternoon.

Here are the details:

Sunday morning/afternoon, September 24, 2023

Casual Get-Together
Furnace Run Metro Park

--Address: 4955 Townsend Road, Richfield, OH 44286
--Website: https://www.summitmetroparks.org/furnace-run-metro-park.aspx
--11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Classmates will enjoy brunch items late in the morning and picnic items such early in the afternoon. We will have outdoor activities (bocce ball, cornhole) as well as indoor fun (trivia, cards, etc).

So kick back and join us Sunday at Furnace Run!

Note: We have a limit of 100 guests at one time in the shelter.

A REQUEST FOR SPEAKERS AT THE REUNION

We will be having a short program at the Saturday evening dinner/dance at the reunion.

If you like to address the class during the program, please let us know!

You could tell a funny story from your high school years. Or share a touching memory about your classmates.

Really, what you say is only limited by your imagination! (All in good taste, of course.)

If you would like to speak to the class during the “Open Mic” portion of the program, please email us at info@revere1973.com and give us an idea about the subject you will be discussing.

P.S. If you are more of an impromptu type of person, we have your back! We will be making a call at the Saturday night event for anyone who would like to address the class.

Special notes:

--We are asking speakers to keep talks at about 5 minutes.

--We do not have a setup for slides or videos.

--If a speaker desires, the committee can also send out longer printed presentations with pictures through emails to the class and posts on our website.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR MUSIC SUGGESTIONS!

The Reunion Committee asked for Saturday night music suggestions and our classmates delivered.

We received great suggestions from Peggy Wier, Bill Meyer, Karen Glenn McElroy, Ann Reinthal, Nancy Hofmann Kulick, Janna McMillin Amole, David McCann, Ned Bosworth and Bruce Moore.

The deadline for suggestions was August 10.

Reunion Committee members David Jennings and Joe Rizzi will be going through the suggestions and combining those with an already stellar preliminary list to put together a great playlist.

We are going to dance, dance, dance on Saturday night!

WONDERFUL UPDATES FROM OUR CLASSMATES

In the past year-plus, the Reunion Committee has received many wonderful emails from our cherished classmates, including some who would have loved to attend, but sent their regrets.

Here are some of those emails:

Hello all. I regretfully will have to miss this reunion. I had the opportunity to host a small group on a 14 night Silversea Baltic cruise and just couldn’t pass that up! I look forward to seeing posts and pictures on the Class Facebook page. Hope I’m still kicking for the next one!

May everyone have a fantastic celebration and thank you to the committee for all of their efforts to make this happen!

Cheers!

Melanie (Cupp) Summers
Pasadena, California

You have been successful tracking me and all my family down! I appreciate your follow-up but at this time I don’t believe I will be attending the 50th reunion. I am out of state as it appears you are also but don’t believe I will be making any trips to Ohio at that time.

All the best,

Debra Zaleski Rick
Cudahy, Wisconsin

Good luck with all your plans. I hope life has treated you well over the years. It is hard to believe it has been 50 years since high school graduation, wow. It is doubtful I can attend but please keep me informed, you never know.  I have many happy memories of my 9th grade year and classmates at Eastview Junior High.

Thanks,

Toinette Jones Carter
Alameda, California

Good to speak with you last evening. It seems unlikely that I will make it to a reunion next September; I’ll keep the dates on my calendar, though, as I often do not know until a month or two before I will travel with the Assistance Dogs International (ADI) transfers, much less which direction. At the moment I have 10 transfers -- three trips -- to do in the next month, covering over 12,000 miles.

Somewhere in here I am trying to fit in a holiday, probably to the Caribbean coast of Mexico. We also look after/train service dogs here. We have two currently in the ADI breeding program to that keeps us busy. Our daughter, now in her 30s, and her husband and two kids (girl age 5, boy age 1) have a home on his family farm near Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. So that keeps us busy as well, helping out there in the busy seasons.

As mentioned, probably best to do emails for updates and such.

Brian Kelley
Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada

Thank you for reaching out for my personal info.  While I am not attending the reunion, I do want my info to be listed/accurate. Thank you! Hard to believe we are 67ish … scary!

Thanks for contacting me about the reunion.  I’m still working (hope to retire next year . . . ) and it is pedal to the metal for me so I’m a bit in my own world. . . . That is my excuse for not returning calls earlier!

I’m not likely to make the event in Ohio. Hope you are all well, and you have a good party for our 50th!

Take care,

David Shaw
Corvallis, Oregon

Got your letter last week. Sure nice to hear from some old classmates. While I do not think I would attend a reunion, it would be nice if there was a newsletter.

I would be interested to read what people are up to and where they live. I am still married and have two kids and one grandchild.

Linda Mortimer Stadelman
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio

Was nice of you folks to invite those of us who started at Revere but finished elsewhere. It looks like I barely qualify since I only went there about a week!

I doubt I’ll be able to make the event but I would still like to receive any information you send out in case I change my mind. If I don’t attend, I’d like to send a letter that anyone interested could read expressing my thanks for my schoolmates’ friendships. A lot of your graduates I had known since kindergarten and fondly remember.

Thanks much,

Roger Young
Carrollton, Texas

Lovely to hear from you and learn that you’re doing well.  Thank you for contacting me; I have been receiving the committee’s information, but have not gotten involved in reunion activities. It’s unlikely I will attend the reunion, but it is fun to look at the pictures of the last one.

Best wishes to all,

Nancy Barkow Barngrover
Cincinnati, Ohio

I got your letter about the class reunion.  Thanks for reaching out.

I probably will not be able to attend.

Randy Lynn
Summerfield, North Carolina

My goodness, what a marvelous turnout!!  Your efforts paid off.

Now I’m sad I’m not coming. … Oh well, have FUN!

Ann Ruhlin Brocker

WE HAVE ENJOYED RECONNECTING WITH EVERYONE!

The last year-plus has been quite a journey for the Reunion Committee! It started in early 2022, when the committee was formed and three groups were formed: Roster/Communications, Venues/Activities and Invitations/Memory.

The roster group enlisted more than a dozen volunteers and collectively we were able to locate all but a couple of the classmates on the active roster. They then built a website and sent regular newsletters to the class.

The venues group researched various venues for our main activities and kept in regular contact with our partners. In addition to putting together all of the details for each event, they are also planning additional weekend activities.

The invitations group went through a lengthy process to put together the invitation for the reunion. And now they are processing the registrations forms to be ready at the tables when attendees arrive for reunion events.

Whether classmates were able to register or not, it has been wonderful to reconnect with so many classmates since early 2022!

CONTACT YOUR OLD CHUMS ABOUT THE REUNION

Have you lost touch with cherished friends from your days at Revere and Eastview?

Would you like to encourage those friends to join you at the reunion?

We are here to help!

Just email the committee at info@revere1973.com and give us the names of classmates you are trying to find. We will do our best to get you in touch with your friends!

(Please note: We will not provide contact information to those who contact us without the approval of the classmates they are hoping to find.)

HERE'S AN IDEA: LET'S CARPOOL TO THE REUNION!

We realize that it’s not as easy as it used to be to travel long distances.

So here’s a possible solution: Let’s carpool to the reunion!

Let us know if you would like a travel partner and we will try to find classmates from your state and/or region who would make great traveling companions on the journey to Ohio and back.

Maybe you can split the driving – and possibly even split hotel expenses! – to make things easier for everyone.

Please email us at info@revere1973.com or text us at 561-312-2765 and we will try to find a travel partner or partners for you.

If we receive enough interest, we might be able to place a bulk order for those interested.

Furnace Run has a beautiful, rustic lodge where classmates will enjoy brunch items late in the morning and picnic items early in the afternoon.

There are plenty of tables to sit at in the lodge, picnic tables outside and a huge outdoor area for sporting activities.

HELP US FIND MISSING CLASSMATES

Our Roster Team and a host of volunteers have done an outstanding job of finding classmates around the country – and even some in places around the world.

We have located just about everyone, but a couple of classmates are still beyond our reach:

Debbie Munns

Daniel Wilkins

If you have any tips on where Debbie and Daniel might be, please email us at info@revere1973.com.

HELP US FIND THE CLASS PROPHESY

Classmates may recall that the Class Prophesy was read during one of our graduation events back in 1973.

The Reunion Committee would love to share this fine piece of writing with the class during our reunion, but we have a problem: We can’t locate the document or even a copy of the document.

We have checked with some of the participants involved with the Senior Class activities and have yet to figure out where it might be located.

If you have any clues that might unlock this mystery, please send us an email at info@revere1973.com.

IN MEMORIAM

We were saddened to learn last week of the loss of Dominic Tafleicheng, one of the foreign exchange students in the Revere High School Class of 1973.

During the 1973-1973 school year, Dominic lived with classmate Donna Gessell’s family.

Donna had a phone conversation last week with Dominic’s daughter, Tricia.

“Sadly, Dominic died on October 21, 2016 of kidney failure,” Donna said. “He had been a captain on his own ship, with an interisland business. He leaves a wife and five children, three sons and two daughters, and grandchildren.”

Class President Randy McKeeman’s family hosted Bo Hansen, a foreign exchange student from Denmark, during the 1972-1973 school year.

“I have many fond memories of Dominic,” Randy said. “It seems that he had a rich family life. His family will no doubt miss him as we will, too.”

Many in the class will remember Dominic most for his big smile. Wherever he went, he always seemed to have a friendly, engaging smile on his face.

Dominic worked on the Lantern, was a member of Quill and Scroll, served as a Homecoming escort and was voted as having the “Best Walk” in the class.

In article in the Akron Beacon Journal while at Revere, Dominic professed his admiration of American cuisine.

“I’ve put on 45 pounds since I came here in July, he said, patting what the Beacon called his “ample belly” in the Revere guidance office. “I sure love American food. It’s much better than in Micronesia.”

Before arriving in America, he was nervous about how people would dress.

“We heard in Micronesia that Americans are always formally dress,” Dominic recalled at the time. “But when I got here, I saw girls in boys’ clothes and everybody wearing jeans – then I felt comfortable.”

At the end of the school year, Dominic felt sorry about leaving.

“I enjoyed it here and made lots of friends,” he said in the Beacon Journal article. “I consider myself very lucky.”

In the 1973 yearbook, Dominic penned a heartfelt letter to “say goodbye to all the friends I have here at Revere High School.

“It has been a pleasure knowing most of the people including the administration itself. I will be going back to my island. I will be thinking of you all.”

He also thanked his host family.

“Last of all, thanks to the Gessell family for sharing their home with me. I have never known such wonderful people in my life.”

He included his address and asked his classmates to keep in touch.

“May God be with you all.”

Donna reports that Dominic’s daughter, Tricia, recently moved to Hawaii and lives on the island of Maui with her family:

“She and her husband have five children, four daughters and a son, who is employed by Home Depot. Her eldest two daughters are in high school and her youngest is 7, in elementary school. She told me that her mother still has the Revere Senior High School 1973 yearbook.”

Donna also hopes to hear from Dominic’s son, Dominic Tafleicheng Jr., who lives on Yap, part of the Federated States of Micronesia. Dominic Jr. works with the national police.

The Revere Class of 1973 sends our deepest condolences to Dominic Sr.’s loving family and his friends.

IN MEMORIAM

At the end of 2022, a tribute to those lost since graduation was emailed to classmates.

Sadly, we have learned of two cherished classmates who have passed away in recent months.

Kathy Semanco DuCharme

Kathy Semanco DuCharme passed away unexpectedly on January 6, 2023. Kathy was living in Copley at the time of her passing.

Kathy is probably best remembered as an outstanding, vibrant Revere cheerleader during all three years of high school. She was in the Pep Club, Y-Teens and Ski Club, was active in intramurals, participated in the Fashion Show and was a member of the Homecoming Court as a Senior.

After her graduation from the University of Akron in 1977, Kathy married her high school sweetheart, Denny DuCharme, a star basketball player from the Revere Class of 1972. They celebrated their 45th anniversary last July.

Kathy was a career coach, supporting hundreds of people seeking job outplacement resources. The past 10 years she worked as a senior consultant at Ratliff & Taylor. She was also the first human resources manager at Goldfish Swim School in Birmingham, Michigan, upon the company’s founding.

The Revere High School Class of 1973 extends our deepest condolences to Denny and her family.

Karen Glenn

Karen Glenn passed away March 1, 2023, in Midland, Michigan.

Karen was an accomplished athlete as a member of the gymnastics and swimming teams and the Ski Club at Revere. She showcased his talents in the Art Club, choir, ensemble, Thespians, fall and spring plays and fashion and variety shows.

Karen studied biology and comprehensive sciences at Bowling Green University, where she served as the Varsity Gymnastics Team captain.

After receiving a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Akron, Karen was a chemist and senior product leader at Dow Chemical Company for more than 30 years.

The Revere Class of 1973 extends our deepest condolences to Karen’s son, Scott, daughter, Marti, and her entire family.

ROSTER/COMMUNICATIONS TEAM COMPLETES AUDIT OF MORE THAN 75 "MISSING" CLASSMATES

Dear Classmates,

In late October, the Reunion Committee’s Roster/Communications Team completed a six-month drive to get accurate contact information for all of our classmates.

As part of this effort, reunion volunteer Peggy Wier completed audits on the more than 75 classmates who had not yet provided contact information to the team.

Peggy checked records on newspapers.com and researched other datebases to find up-to-date information. Using this information, team leader Bruce Moore provided further research and team member Janet Shattuck Cody sent out dozens of letters and emails to classmates.

In addition, volunteers Karen Leach, Karen Glenn McElroy and Tim Wiggins continued to call and email classmates in the final stretch.

As a result, the roster now includes 219 "Confirmed" classmates, meaning the classmate provided their contact information; 32 "Verified/Audited" classmates, meaning we have reliable addresses, phone numbers and emails for the classmate; and 36 "Partially Verified/Audited" classmates, meaning we have have either a reliable address or email for the classmate.

So in all, "Save the Date" cards will be sent to more than 280 classmates in November.

MORE THAN 200 CLASSMATES HAVE SUPPLIED CONTACT INFORMATION! NOT ON OUR LIST? PLEASE SEND IN YOUR INFO TODAY!

Dear Classmates,

In March, the Reunion Committee’s Roster/Communications Team launched a six-month drive to get accurate contact information for everyone in our class.

We are now in the final weeks of our drive.

It has been quite an adventure, to say the least! Our volunteer Calling Crew
members have sent out hundreds of letters and emails and made hundreds of
calls in an effort to find everyone.

A big THANK YOU goes out to our wonderful Calling Crew members: Vera Maeser, Jerri Henry Virtue, Karen Leach, Karen Glenn McElroy, Tim Wiggins, Randy McKeeman, Janet Shattuck Cody, David McCann, Bruce Moore, Jim Lane and David Wright -- and earlier, Peggy Young Arvay, Lynda Durrant-Bilow, Curtis Flick, Diane Smith Siess, Becky Hanscom and Steve Rees.

Along the way, we had received many “Return to Sender” letters back, heard way too many “This number has been disconnected” messages (to her credit, the operator is always polite!) and received quite a number of rejected emails.

But we have persevered and are happy to report more than 200 classmates have responded with their contact information. This will ensure that they will receive their invitations to the reunion and all of the updates on the event in the coming months.

We have heard from classmates across the United States and even some around
the world. We have received nice emails from Brian Kelley in Alberta, Canada, Bo
Svarrer Hansen in Denmark, Jane Seiler Thompson in Portugal and Charles
Reischman in Bahrain.

We have also attempted to find classmates who left the Revere district prior to our graduation in 1973. We have found Mark Smith, Dorothy Lutz Guy, Jim Kukula, Corinne “Corky” Soos, Gloria Lab Dunn, Tim McCourtie, Roger Young, Marc Lansden and others.

Thank you!

Best regards,

REVERE CLASS OF 1973’s 50TH REUNION TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 22, 23, 24 IN 2023

After receiving the results of a poll in which more than 80 classmates participated, the Reunion Committee decided this week that the Revere High School Class of 1973’s 50th Reunion will be held September 22, 23 and 24 in 2023.

Classmates recently voted in a poll on the Facebook page and also sent in their
votes through emails sent to the class email address.

Here are the results:

September 22, 23, 24 in 2023: 43 votes
October 13, 14 15 in 2023: 21 votes
Either is fine: 19 write-in votes

At a meeting on May 10, the Reunion Committee unanimously approved
September 22, 23 and 24 in 2023 as the dates for the 50th Reunion.

The committee would like to thank the 83 classmates who participated in the poll.
From the comments that we received, there was a strong sentiment among
classmates -- even among those who chose the October dates -- that either of the choices would be great for the reunion.

Official “Save the Date” notices will be sent to all classmates in a few months!

For now, we can affirm that the reunion dates are set.

So please set aside these dates on your advance calendars:

September 22, 23 and 24 in 2023

The Reunion Committee is working hard to make our 50th Reunion a special
event for all of our classmates!

To contact the committee with questions or suggestions, please send an email to

Thank you very much.

REVERE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1973: 50TH REUNION PREPARATIONS BEGIN

Dear Classmates,

We are very excited to announce that preparations have begun for the Revere
High School Class of 1973’s 50th Reunion in 2023.

MEET YOUR COMMITTEE CO-CHAIRS

Three classmates – Bruce Moore, Denise Torgerson Smith and David Jennings –
have agreed to serve as co-chairs for the reunion. Bruce served as chairman of the
reunion in 2015, Denise served on the reunion committees in 2015 and 2005 and David served on the reunion committees in 2005 and 1993.

HOW TO JOIN THE COMMITTEE

A few committee participants from previous years have stepped forward to
become part of the 2023 committee. But we could always use more help!
If you would like to be a member of the 2023 committee, please send an email to info@revere1973.com by Saturday, January 22, 2022.

HELP US SET THE DATE!

The committee’s goal is to send “Save the Date” notices to all classmates at least
one year in advance.

So what is your preference for when to hold the reunion? Please give us your
choice from the following options:

APRIL/MAY 2023
JULY/AUGUST 2023
SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2023

Note: We are excluding June 2023 since that is a big month for weddings, etc.
Please send your reunion date choice to info@revere1973.com by Saturday,
January 22, 2022, or share your choice in the comments section below this
message.

CHANGES TO THE REUNION FORMAT?

We have traditionally held a cocktail party on Friday night and a dinner and dance
on Saturday night. At the last reunion we added a brunch/picnic on Sunday
morning/afternoon.

Would you like to keep this format for 2023 or would you like to take a different
approach on any or all of the dates?

Please send us your feedback to info@revere1973.com by Saturday, January 22, 2022, or share your choice in the comments section below this message.

CHANGES TO SATURDAY MORNING/AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES?

In 2015, we held the following Saturday morning and afternoon activities:

--Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad and Bicycle Adventure
--Stan Hywet Tour
--Class Tour of the old Revere High School

Would you like to hold similar activities in 2023? (Note: A school tour would be of
the new high school and/or the Eastview building.)

Or would you like to hold other activities? Give us your suggestions!

Please send us your feedback on Saturday morning and afternoon activities to info@revere1973.com by Saturday, January 22, 2022, or in the comments section below this message.

WE HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

We had great participation and plenty of fun at our 60th Birthday Reunion in
2015. The committee members will do all that we can to locate and contact every
classmate and plan activities that will appeal to all classmates.

We look forward to your feedback regarding the reunion date, format and
morning and afternoon activities. The more that we hear from you, the better we
can tailor the event to fulfill your expectations!

And of course, we welcome hearing from those who would like to serve on the
committee.

Thank you!

Bruce
Denise
David

David McCann: Thank you for your ongoing efforts! A great leadership team!

Denise Smith: Hi Bruce. Thanks so much for sending out the reunion message and
thanks for including the pictures! They bring back warm memories of a very fun
weekend.

I looked at the picture from Friday night, and of course I looked for myself first .
I think I'm the gray head behind Peggy Young (it's the top of my head, one of my
best pictures ever - LOL).

But what I did notice in this picture was that Bill Pomeroy and Barb Motz, two
classmates that we've lost, were in the picture as well.

I didn't know Bill (we ran in different circles in high school) and the only bit of conversation I think I ever had with him was that evening. I realized this classmate seemed to be a very nice guy and thought that it would have been nice to have known him better. And of course, we miss Barb. What a bright light she was. I still hear her infectious laugh.

I mention all this not to be maudlin but to demonstrate that we come together at reunions as a group with a shared past, and even though our paths may not have crossed much in school., we only get so many chances to have our paths cross again. We get a chance to see the light in people that we may not have gotten to see before.

We had and have so many bright lights in our class, and our reunions have been
so enjoyable. I hope everyone will give us their feedback and try to join us in
2023. We'll share old memories and make new ones!!

Best, Denise

Bruce Moore: Denise, thank you for the wonderful, heartfelt post. You are most
welcome! I felt the same way as I looked through the pictures. Look forward to
everyone's feedback!

Carol Barker Garman: Denise Smith, beautifully said!!!

Randy McKeeman: Bruce, please include me on your committee list. Thanks!

Gregg Ballou: Hello Bruce. Please add me to your committee as well. Thanks.
